Just a Thought… 26 September

Are you a reliable person? Can people trust what you say? Are you someone whom others can count on? One of the descriptions of a godly person In Psalm 15 is of someone

“who keeps an oath even when it hurts,” (Psalm 15:4b)

Most of us realise that although we may aspire to be such a person and try very hard, we just can’t always manage it.

Last Sunday morning we read Moses’ description of the LORD from Deuteronomy Chs 2 & 3 and saw that He is utterly reliable and unchanging. One of the things that make the LORD so dependable is that He makes and always keeps His Word.  Unlike so-called other ’gods’ of people’s imagination in which events are ‘explained’ as being from their ‘god’, the LORD always does what He has said He will do.

As He told His Old Testament people in Numbers ch 23:

Num 23: 19 God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfil?

Knowing that the LORD is like that provides us with amazing certainty for life and eternity. It means we can confidently put our faith in Him and what He says. To get this right we need to be clear on what He has (and hasn’t!) said! It’s sad to hear from people who feel ‘let down’ by the LORD because He hasn’t done what they mistakenly thought He would do.

Yet when we grasp from His Word a rescue plan and relationship for those who put their trust in Him, we can believe what He has said and act on that trust, knowing it will be honoured forever.
