Just a Thought… 26 March

Decisions, decisions, decisions – life is full of them: From the large decisions about relationships, jobs, accommodation and health to the small ones about whether to have another cup of tea or how many biscuits are enough? The question is how we make such decisions: What criteria do we use? Do we just go with the flow of our upbringing,  the flow of society or go with the demands of our appetite?!

Last Sunday morning we saw Moses reminding the Old Testament people of God that the LORD has given them criteria that will guide both their large and small decisions:

26 See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse—27 the blessing if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today; 28 the curse if you disobey the commands of the Lord your God and turn from the way that I command you today by following other gods, which you have not known.(Deut 11:26-28)

Following what the LORD says will always ultimately lead to blessing, for He is both infinitely wise and, despite popular sinful culture’s caricature of Him, He is always good.

If we reject the wisdom of His Word then it should not surprise us that things go badly wrong – both because that’s inevitable and because we deserve the judgment of our creator.

Yet to follow His wisdom we must be familiar with it: The real question starts then, not with whether we’ll follow God’s Word, but whether we are even familiar with it in the first place?

Moses urges the people to be familiar with what the LORD says by repeating it to make it a ‘Habit of the heart’. Will you do that? Start today….
