Just a Thought… 25 October

Pray for our leaders

After some turbulent weeks, today sees the appointment of yet another Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Whatever you may think about the politics, the Bible is clear that we are to pray for our nation’s leaders:

“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Saviour who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.…” (1 Tim 2:1-4)

History may have demonstrated that the church can thrive under persecution. Nevertheless, the Bible is clear that we should seek good, wise leaders to enable us to get on with living lives that seek to honour God’s one and only Son the Lord Jesus. He alone is the only ‘leader’ who will not change!

The freedom to preach the Gospel, live for Jesus and encourage others in doing so must therefore be our primary concern whatever political party, economic or social policies we believe to be the best.

Forever is a very long time (!) and there is therefore NOTHING more important than being saved from God’s wrath through faith in God’s one and only Son who died to save us for a future with Him in glory and rose again to prove it.

As we enter yet another new phase in our nation’s history, will you find your hope and put your faith in our constantly changing politics, important as they are, or in the Son of God? If you are already a Christian, pray that the new Government will continue to enable everyone to hear about the only true Saviour.
