Just a Thought… 21 November

Those of us who are Christians have put our faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, what He has done to save us by enduring God’s wrath in our place upon a cross and then rising from the dead in triumph giving us living hope for ever! Such a rescue plan from the LORD must have life-shaping implications for those who know Him! To put our faith in Him means trusting Him as Saviour and knowing Him as Lord.

This amazing Gospel news from the New Testament of the Bible is a fulfilment of all that the Old Testament of the Bible promised. As we know the love and forgiveness of God in Christ we can see in the Bible descriptions of what living for Him looks like.

Last Sunday morning we heard Moses, from Deuteronomy chapter 6, tell the Old Testament people of God what their right response to the LORD and His love for them was:

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. (Deut 6:4,5)

It’s a real challenge for us to imagine what that looks like, but Moses goes on to describe the practical implications in actually very simple terms:

  • It involves listening carefully to what He says in the Bible and putting that into practice in every area of our lives, what we model and teach to the next generation and what we show to our community.

How about spending some time this week thinking and praying about what that looks like from Deut 6:1-9 and asking for the LORD to help you put it into practice?
