Just a Thought… 20 December

The greatest gift of Christmas

What do you REALLY want for Christmas? When your head is on your pillow and you close your eyes to think about what nobody else can see or hear – maybe to admit to yourself that what you really want is what nobody else could imagine.

Now we’re at the end of 2022 we may have got past many of the issues of Covid19, but there’s plenty more things for us to worry about and what most of us really want is, surely, peace!

The great news is that the greatest gift of Christmas is the Lord Jesus Himself!

Isaiah foretold it:

For to us a child is born,

to us a son is given,

and the government will be on his shoulders.

And he will be called

Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

(Isaiah 9:6)

The context of that promise is to people who are living in darkness who have been promised a great light.

The truth is that we all live in darkness:  surrounded by worries and blind to the future. We also know that we have often ignored or disobeyed God who made us. We justly deserve Hell rather than Heaven.

Yet Isaiah promised the people living in darkness have seen a great light.

It was a promise to send ONE who would be THE RESCUER – the Messiah or Christ: the ONE who would save us from the Hell we deserve by dying on a cross for us and guarantee us the future that He deserved by rising again from the dead.

Trusting in Lord Jesus we can step into the future with great confidence that the Prince of Peace is with us and that’s surely the greatest Christmas gift of all!
