On Sunday evening we were really helpfully reminded from Genesis 27 that every part of scripture points us to Jesus. The Old Testament are not stories with moral lessons for us to follow – none of the characters in this chapter are good examples for us. The Old Testament is about Jesus. We saw how even mess and sin cannot thwart God’s plans.
We were also shown a wonderful picture of God’s grace as sinful, scheming Jacob received blessing from his father. In the story Jacob enters into the presence of his father dressed in the clothes of his older brother and receives great blessing. This is a shadow of what is to come. We enter our heavenly Father’s presence dressing in the righteousness of our older brother, Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 4:16 says
“Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need”
Jesus knows all our sin and mess. He understands what it is to be human. He has loved us enough to die for us, that we may approach God.
There will be times this week where we feel very deeply our weaknesses and sinfulness. There will be times when we feel dirty and do not wish to pray. There may be times where we wonder if God will want to hear from us again as we have sinned again. In these times we must remember that we do not enter His presence based on our own life or merit. We enter because he sees us like he does Jesus. Let’s be quick to turn to God even in our sin and receive His undeserved grace and blessing.
